Firechase Running

The official start of spring reminded me that it’s time to dig my running shoes out from the back of the closet, and start getting out on the trail.  (Well, maybe ‘running shoes’ is a bit of a misnomer in my case, since I rarely move any faster than a very slow jog.).  But regardless, I find that springtime is my favorite season for running – not too hot, not too cold, and the upcoming shorts/swimsuit season serves as something of a motivating factor on those days when I’m lacking other inspiration.

I’ve noticed a number of interesting races coming up over the next couple of months, but I wanted to highlight the 10th Annual 10k Firechase and 911 Fun Run on Saturday, May 24th.  Proceeds from this race benefit the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company. In addition to all of the normal age division categories, the race also has a firefighter division, featuring team competition between firefighter departments.

The 10k Firechase starts at 8 am at the Lowe’s Island Community Center – 47630 Saulty Drive, Potomac Falls (Sterling), VA.  Fun run begins shortly after 8.  Dogs and strollers are welcome, and SVFD is planning on having their firetrucks and rescue equipment out at the course, which should be especially fun for the little ones.

Registration is $30 until May 1; $35 afterwards; and $40 on race day.
